When I first began getting into Tony Stark, I imagined him as having a Howard Hughes kind of boldness and arrogance. BEN: I think the reason why this franchise is such an enormous success is that Robert brings into his work a degree of humanity, an understanding of the mythology, a kindness, a constant self-questioning which makes Tony so accessible. There is no arrogance, there is no pomposity. There’s always a very touching grain of self-doubt … Therefore, it’s a very embracing portrayal and he is always connecting with the audience. He is a joy to work with.
