No disrespect to Jeremy Renner but let’s take a moment to appreciate RJD’s Iron Jogging Shorts as well.

When I first began getting into Tony Stark, I imagined him as having a Howard Hughes kind of boldness and arrogance. I also saw it as an opportunity to come up with a screen persona that would be a more dashing and bolder variation on my own nature. There’s a lot of me in him but he’s way cooler than me

RDJ:  I just feel like— it’s funny because I’m just so happy to be meeting with Sir Ben here and I’ve been traveling from the East to the West.  The only thing I can say about the franchise, and my coworkers, and the experience of playing Tony is this time around, for some reason or another, I’m just feeling an immense gratitude.

I don’t necessarily know how or why these films became so popular or successful. I’m still scratching my head sometimes ... I’m noticing that in being— I have this contact with the fans and the press and doing this tour this time around and feeling immensely grateful.

I don’t mean to avoid your question but I just don’t quite know how to answer it.

BEN:  I think the reason why this franchise is such an enormous success is that Robert brings into his work a degree of humanity, an understanding of the mythology, a kindness, a constant self-questioning which makes Tony so accessible. There is no arrogance, there is no pomposity.  There’s always a very touching grain of self-doubt … Therefore, it’s a very embracing portrayal and he is always connecting with the audience.  The reason why Robert can’t answer your question is because he’s too modest so I’m answering it for him. He’s a brilliant actor and he brings layer and layer and layer and layers to his work.  He is a joy to work with.
